{"id":353,"count":2,"description":"<p data-start=\"111\" data-end=\"421\"><strong data-start=\"111\" data-end=\"197\">Originally from the Southwest of France, Mathieu Sodore was born on June 13, 1962.<\/strong> He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Bordeaux (\u00c9cole des Beaux-Arts and Universit\u00e9 de Bordeaux III), earning a Master\u2019s degree in 1984 and the CAPES in visual arts in 1985. In July 2001, he moved to Lisbon, Portugal.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"423\" data-end=\"1074\">Mathieu Sodore began exhibiting in the 1980s. Since then, his work has been shown repeatedly in France and abroad. Notably, he participated in the traveling exhibition <em data-start=\"591\" data-end=\"608\">Internation\u2019art<\/em> at the Galerie de Nesle in Paris and at the Cercle San Lluc in Barcelona, Spain, in 1990; at the Salon de Montrouge in 1993 and 1996; and at the <em data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"792\">Salon Grands et Jeunes d\u2019Aujourd\u2019hui<\/em> in Paris in 1997, 1998, and 1999. In 1999, he was part of the French selection of this Salon and exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in Dubrovnik, Croatia. In 2006, he participated in Arte Lisboa, the Lisbon International Contemporary Art Fair, on the Monumental gallery stand.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1076\" data-end=\"1425\">In 2010, he was included in the traveling exhibition <em data-start=\"1129\" data-end=\"1139\">Toreador<\/em>, presented that year in N\u00eemes, then in 2011 in Arles and Madrid, and in 2012 in Ciudad Rodrigo and Seville, Spain. In 2013, he took part in an artist residency and group exhibition in Morocco at the Al Maqam Space (Tahanaout). In 2016, he exhibited at the Atalante Gallery in Madrid.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1427\" data-end=\"2333\">Among his solo exhibitions since 2000 are: <em data-start=\"1470\" data-end=\"1487\">Le Po\u00e8te Debout<\/em> at the Maison-Mus\u00e9e Fernando Pessoa, Lisbon (2002); <em data-start=\"1540\" data-end=\"1549\">Inpetto<\/em> at the Chapelle des Carmes \/ Mus\u00e9e de Borda, Dax (2004); <em data-start=\"1607\" data-end=\"1616\">Figuras<\/em> at the Chapelle des J\u00e9suites, N\u00eemes (2005); <em data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1682\">Conhecer\/Reconhecer<\/em> at the Monumental Gallery, Lisbon (2007); <em data-start=\"1725\" data-end=\"1756\">La M\u00fasica Callada del Cantaor<\/em> as part of the \u201cArte Flamenco\u201d festival in Mont-de-Marsan (2009) and at the French Institute in Lisbon (2010); a Goya homage installation in the arenas of Garlin (2011); exhibition at Matadero Contemporary Art Center, Madrid (2013); invitation to Japan by the Tiempo Iberoamericano Foundation and exhibition at the Taller Gallery, Fukuoka (2014); <em data-start=\"2104\" data-end=\"2123\">La Soledad Sonora<\/em> at the Joaqu\u00edn Roncal Cultural Center, Zaragoza, and the Pilar Mir\u00f3 Cultural Center, Madrid (2015); the series <em data-start=\"2235\" data-end=\"2251\">On nous presse<\/em> at Passevite, Lisbon (2015); and <em data-start=\"2285\" data-end=\"2302\">Vidas Queimadas<\/em> at Passevite, Lisbon (2016).<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2335\" data-end=\"2615\">In 2009, filmmaker Floreal Peleato produced a feature-length documentary, <em data-start=\"2409\" data-end=\"2439\">La Mano Azul (The Blue Hand)<\/em>, devoted to Mathieu Sodore\u2019s painting. The film has been screened in France, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Germany, Chile, Bolivia, Morocco, Uruguay, Brazil, and Japan.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2617\" data-end=\"2795\">In 2011, a chapter on this film was included in the book <em data-start=\"2674\" data-end=\"2709\">Biographies de Peintres \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cran<\/em>, edited by Patricia-Laure Thivat and published by Presses Universitaires de Rennes.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2797\" data-end=\"3068\">In 2015, he established the Passevite workshop\/gallery in Lisbon, a space for alternative artistic production and reception.
